Here is me and my CERN ID that we picked up on on our first day shortly after arriving.
I saw the place where the internet was born on our Phil Rubin guided tour of CERN our first day.
Here is my lunch for each day. Well, I get some different things, but it is generally some variation of a sandwich, some crackers and a little fruit. They do have restaurants, but I think I can get more food for cheaper just using the grocery store which is pretty close by.
This was a picture I took on our first bike ride into the country side. So far it is my favorite picture I have taken and I recently reset my background from the picture in Alaska taken from the ski area in Cordova to this one.
This was on our walk downtown. They have a pedestrian only zone where we walked around a bit, even though it was raining at times.
This was our first glimpse of Lake Geneva. It is a pretty large lake and would take about an hour to drive to the other side of it as you might see in a later picture.
Here is the modern art/detector exhibit that displays some pieces of the old detectors. This was on our walk back from the big grocery store for the first time.
We found this old detector just chilling there outside when Zack and I went for a bike ride around CERN on one rainy afternoon.
I saw these chips and just had to buy them. It is cool ranch flavor, but they must call ranch "American." I had one of our group take a picture of me and my chips looking cool on the tram on the way home.
This was our first Sunday hike with Phil Rubin. It ended up being about 9.5 miles. From the left is Zack, Alex Sherman (there are two Alexes in our group), Tina, and Phil Rubin.
Here is the drinking water I was talking about in the previous post. It was really cold and delicious!
This is a safehouse for the Swiss that was built during the US and Russia arms race. You can only get in if you are a Swiss citizen, and citizenship is difficult to obtain. Even if you were working here for 20 years but didn't do the right things, you might not get citizenship.
This is a view of some vineyards from the road we were "hiking."
Here is a view of CERN from our hike up the Jura mountains after work on Monday. The tiny stick in the middle is the water tower. We are about 800 ft above it and 5 miles away.
This is a bouquet of wild flowers that I picked for Amy. Its only a virtual bouquet, since I can't actually bring them home, but I hope you like them on here at least. I would have picked more from the field, but there were lots of spiders and other insects crawling all around!
This is a larger scale view of Lake Geneva. This is from Tiocan, a lodge that is about 1/3 of the way to the top of the Jura. You can see the Alps on the far side of the valley.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures, more will be coming.
